Plans, expiry & your data

Delete files, events or your account

The difference between hiding, closing and permanently deleting, and how to close your account.

Updated 4 November 2026

PhotoPostman gives you three different options, so you never delete more than you meant to.

Three kinds of delete

Option What happens Can it be undone?
Remove from gallery The file disappears from this gallery. It stays in your account if another gallery or transfer uses it Yes, add it back
Close and keep recovery The event closes to guests. On paid plans, hosted originals go into the 90-day recovery archive Yes, until the recovery deadline
Permanently delete now Originals, previews, temporary ZIPs and recovery copies are deleted for good No

Before anything is permanently deleted, we show you exactly what will be removed and ask you to confirm.

What "permanently deleted" means

We delete the live files, previews, temporary ZIPs and recovery copies. We keep a small deletion record, with no media in it, so that a later system restore can never bring the files back. Database backups are kept for a short, limited time and are only used for disaster recovery. Our Retention and Recovery Policy has the details.

Permanently deleting files in PhotoPostman never deletes originals in your Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive.

Files already downloaded

Deleting a file can't recall copies that guests or the organiser have already downloaded.

Export your data

You can download a complete copy of any event from its Delivery tab, and request an export of your account data from Account & privacy.

Close your account

To close your account, go to Account & privacy, or email support@photopostman.com from the address you signed up with. If you have a paid plan, cancel it first.

When an account closes, public delivery stops and your files follow the export and recovery periods described in our Retention and Recovery Policy. Account details are deleted once those periods end, apart from records the law requires us to keep, such as billing records. If you want everything permanently deleted straight away, choose Permanently delete now first, or say so in your request.

Requests from guests

If someone in your photos asks for them to be removed, see Guest privacy.
